Lead Building Surveyor

Templer Homebuild is looking for a Lead Building Surveyor to join its expanding Building Safety and Technical team based in Newton Abbot.

You'll provide integral technical leadership across a wide range of workstreams; including planned investment works, responsive repairs, and void property refurbishments.

Working closely with Building and compliance Surveyors, operational, commercial, and senior stakeholders, you'll ensure the communities’ homes remain safe, compliant, and well maintained.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled surveyor who enjoys a mix of technical expertise, team leadership, and project management.

The Lead Building Surveyor :

  • Lead the delivery of planned maintenance, capital investment, repairs, and void property programmes.
  • Manage and support the Technical Surveying Team made up of Building Surveyors and coordinators.
  • Carry out detailed property inspections and technical surveys.
  • Diagnose building defects and provide practical solutions.
  • Produce specifications, drawings, tender documents, and contract information.
  • Oversee larger capital projects through all stages of delivery.
  • Monitor contractor performance, quality, compliance, and costs.
  • Provide expert technical advice to colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all works meet relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Promote best practice and continuous improvement across building surveying activities.

What will you bring as a Lead Building Surveyor?

  • Experience in building surveying, ideally from repairs, maintenance, and capital projects industries. Experience in leading or mentoring surveyors or technical teams would be advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of building construction, defects, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in managing contractors and overseeing project delivery.
  • The ability to prepare specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and risk management.
