Quantity Surveyor

Our Birmingham Business is excited to welcome a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial and operational team. Based in our fast paced, modern, and open plan offices located in the heart of Aston, you will benefit from a well-equipped and an inclusive environment offering kitchen facilities, comfortable and private break out areas, free onsite parking, and a designated prayer room for worship.

Within our cyclical contracts (Painting & Decorating) division, our Birmingham commercial team deliver a variety of internal, external, and cyclical painting and associated repairs/refurbishment works to housing, education, commercial and retirement living markets clients. The team are accountable for multiple projects of varying values averaging £50,000 to £300,000, from quote and tendering / estimating stages through to the cost management and final account phases. No two days are the same!

The Quantity Surveyor role:

• Manage risks– highlight and mitigate commercial risks at every stage of a project from the start and throughout.
• Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning.
• Working closely and collaboratively with the Contracts Managers to ensure productivity targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives. Ian Williams is committed to direct delivery wherever possible.
• Building strong client and supplier relations, to ensure any variations and progress of contracts are discussed, and solutions are met.
• Taking full purchase, credit and debtor responsibility using COINS to achieve expected cash flow.
• Complete and analyse weekly reporting from site has adequate cost information (including labour rates and performance exceptional to budget, value, progress, quality, and safety)

What will you bring as Quantity Surveyor?

• You will be commercially savvy, highly numerate, analytical, and accurate as well as being a genuine ‘people person’ who thrives when collaborating with clients, trade teams and immediate colleagues, fostering a genuine ‘working together’ environment and long-term business relationships.
• Proven experience in a similar estimating and/ or surveying role (contractor / subcontractor side)
• Experience of successfully managing projects simultaneously with a value of works ranging from £10,000 upwards
• Enterprising spirit, with a key eye for identifying business opportunities, areas for cost savings and unique ways to maximise on returns. And just as importantly, you will value developing key existing and valued relationships for future opportunities.
