Quantity Surveyor

Ian Williams started life as a Painting Contractor in 1946 and are proud to have grown significantly, and organically, to continue to deliver this valued service 8 decades on.

Specifically in North London (office based in Watford) our committed commercial and operational team have secured further long-term value within our core cyclical Painting contracts and are looking to invite a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

The Quantity Surveyor role

You will actively tender, estimate and measure on site therefore you will love building relationships, collaborating with the commercial & operational team, and delivering an excellent client service to a variety of private and public sector housing clients across the North, Northwest and Northeast London areas

Specific tasks include:

  • Tendering and estimating. Our Quantity Surveyors are responsible for the full life cycle of a contract and project, from start to finish
  • Being responsible for the financial and technical aspects of the contracts across all work streams including procurement, invoicing, payments, cash flow and cost control.
  • Minimising costs where possible, maximising value and making profit.
  • Working with direct labour (and for some elements subcontractors), ensuring all work issued has labour targets to return agreed profit performance.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with the workforce, customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and our clients
  • Producing monthly contract reports identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning valuations of the unit’s actual deliverables against the projected budget (CVRs)

What will you bring as a Quantity Surveyor:

  • People Skills: As a genuine 'people person,' effective, open and collaborative communication with clients, trade teams, and your colleagues is second nature to you.
  • Expertise: Whether you're an experienced Quantity Surveyor or an Assistant Surveyor ready for the next chapter, we want to hear from you. Demonstrable schedule of rates experience is advantageous as well as experience of working with direct labour.
  • Ownership Mentality: Demonstrate your ownership of contracts, from estimating/tendering to cost control and CVR management through to final accounts. From quote to cash
  • Analytical & Organised: Bring your analytical skills and organisational prowess to the table.
