What does an apprenticeship at Ian Williams involve?
Being an Apprentice at Ian Williams, gives you the opportunity to be “hands on” and learn on the job, you will combine a combination of college and practical learning to study your chosen trade. You will get the opportunity to put your new skills into practice, while supported by the expert guidance of our experienced tradespeople - your own mentor.
What will I be doing?
The specific type of work will vary contract to contract, the types of tasks we cover include:
Measuring and Prepping
1st fix
2nd fix
Repair and maintenance
Although our work is predominantly domestic, you may also work on commercial sites depending on your unit’s contracts.
As well as this, you will:
Attend college to understand “the how and the why” of your chosen trade (usually 1 day a week)
Build a fantastic portfolio of evidence to go towards your End Point Assessment
Be a valued member of the team and contribute to the overall success
What will I need to apply?
You don’t need to have had prior experience, all we ask for is;
A genuine passion for Carpentry and hands-on practical work
A positive attitude with a willingness to stick with it and problem solve
Commitment to building your career at Ian Williams – we are as committed to you as you are to us
Strong organisational skills (to successfully juggle college and work)
GCSE (or equivalent) grade 3 (D) or above in Maths and English
DT or construction based qualification would be beneficial but is not essential
